FAQ / Nine questions
Questions owners ask first.
If yours is not here, write to brooke@globeboost.com. It will probably end up on this page.
Before
Can any domain name be bought?
No. Names that belong to a large brand, or that an owner is actively building on, are usually out of reach at any sensible price. We would rather tell you that at the start than bill you for trying. Plenty of good names are held by people who registered them years ago and never used them, and those are worth a letter.
How do you find who owns a name?
Public registration records are mostly private now, so we work from what is left: the registrar’s relay address, the name’s history, old site archives and related registrations. It takes patience rather than anything clever.
Will the owner know it is my company asking?
Not from us. On a represented purchase we write as GlobeBoost and keep your name out of it until escrow opens, when the escrow service needs both parties on record. Prices tend to climb when an owner learns a well-funded company is interested.
What does it cost if nothing comes of it?
Nothing. There is no retainer or opening fee. Our fee is invoiced only after the name is in your account. The terms are on the fees page.
During
How long does it take?
For a name we hold, one to two weeks from an agreed price to control, most of it waiting on escrow and the registrar. For a name held elsewhere it depends on the owner: some answer in a day, some in a season. We tell you which kind you are dealing with as soon as we can tell.
Who holds the money?
A licensed third-party escrow service. You pay them, the name moves, you confirm it is in your account, and they release the funds to the seller. GlobeBoost never holds client money.
Can our own lawyer or escrow provider handle it?
Yes to the lawyer, always. A different escrow provider is usually fine too, as long as it is licensed and the seller agrees.
After
What is the 60-day lock?
After a name changes hands, most registrars stop it from moving to another registrar for 60 days. You can point it at your website and set up email straight away; you just cannot transfer it again inside that window.
Do you sell names for other owners?
No. We place the names we hold and, when asked, help a business reach one it does not. We do not take listings, which keeps us on one side of every deal.
